Vocational Assessment
A skilled vocational evaluator will extensively review all medical and functional documentation relating to the injured worker and conduct an analysis of the worker’s education, training, and work experiences (see Transferable Skills Analysis).  A comprehensive battery of testing including aptitude and psychometric tests is then administered to objectively measure the worker’s aptitudes, abilities, individual work traits, problem solving, learning skills, and interests. A complete analysis with identification of factors that support or impede the injured worker’s ability to transition to alternate work is presented along with recommendations for maximizing vocational potential in a thorough report which is generated for each individual worker and serves as the basis for subsequent vocational planning

Transferable Skills Analysis (TSA)

This is an analysis of a worker’s residual traits based primarily on his/her academic background, level of training, and work experiences with identification of any skills or expertise that would support transition to alternate work with consideration to any residual impairments or restrictions. This analysis is typically conducted in conjunction with a vocational assessment in order to establish a vocational plan which will assist the worker reintegrate into the current labour market. A detailed and objective report is then prepared to clearly outline findings, analysis and recommendations.
Labor Market Survey (LMS)
Once potential employment options have been identified an intensive Labour Market Survey is employed to verify the existence of real-time job opportunities within the worker’s local labour market. Information is also presented regarding salaries, education and training requirements as well as any relevant industry specific data. A detailed and objective report is then prepared to clearly outline findings, opportunities and recommendations for job acquisition.
Educational Research
If it is determined that a worker may benefit from retraining to support a work transition; educational research can be undertaken to identify institutions, associations, or organizations that offer retraining or educational options. Information is obtained regarding tuition costs, pre-requisite/entry requirements, duration of courses or programs, etc.  A detailed and objective report is then prepared to clearly outline findings, opportunities
and recommendations specific to the individual worker.
Psychovocational Assessment
Further to the vocational assessment and transferable skills analysis a psychological assessment can be included to determine whether a worker is psychologically fit to work or undertake retraining. This assessment examines the psycho-emotional and cognitive capacities of the individual worker in order to make recommendations respecting his or her employability either in general or in reference to a specific job or vocational direction. A detailed and objective report is then prepared to clearly outline findings, analysis and recommendations specific to the individual worker.

Return to Work Coordination

Return to work coordination services are offered to assist the employer client or individual worker in the negotiation and implementation of a timely and safe re-entry to the workforce.  This on-site and one-on-one service is performed by one of our occupational therapists.
Job Seeking Skills
This service is provided to assist the worker with the development and rapid implementation of an organized and systematic approach to job searching and thereafter the ability to independently implement same. This service is very useful for workers who do not have a clearly defined job goal or have little skill or experience as job seekers in the current job market.  The worker is educated on local employment resources, government funded services and is linked to local employment networking programs.
Job Site Assessment & Physical Demands Analysis
A Job Site Assessment with Physical Demands Analysis is used to identify the essential tasks and related physical demands of a specific job.  Typically this assessment involves observing a specific worker undertaking the essential tasks of the job in question at the actual work-site (this may be the worker of interest or may be another worker). The findings of the analysis are then presented in a detailed and objective report which can then be used by the referral source (client, representative, insurer, employer, etc.) to identify whether or not a specific worker is capable of performing the essential tasks of the job in question
Ergonomic Assessment
This is an assessment to provide practitioners with a good understanding of the job, its physical requirements, and the environment in which it is performed. The analysis will determine potential hazards that may cause injury or re-injury. Ergonomic modification of the job site or method by which the job is performed can be done to reduce the potential of injury, or re-injury in the case of an injured worker who is returning to work. The practice of ergonomics works toward fitting the job to the person-not the person to the work-to optimize and enhance performance  The ergonomic assessment is extremely useful in identifying the biomechanical demands of a particular work environment and to identify the interplay of human factors with the physical and mechanical components of that workplace. The ergonomic assessment is typically conducted in respect of a specific job and specific worker and in this case it can make specific recommendations to optimize that individual worker’s performance, while protecting his/her health and safety and minimizing the chance of any re-injury on the job.
Functional Abilities Evaluation (FAE):
Also known as the FCE (Functional Capacity Evaluation); the FAE is an intensive short-term assessment of one to two days which objectively evaluates the physical and functional abilities of a worker (or injured client) in order to determine his/her maximal functional abilities and to document the effect that any residual impairments may have on that worker’s functional ability.  A detailed and objective report is then prepared by an experienced and FAE certified Kinesiologist, Occupational or Physical therapist to clearly outline findings specific to the worker including his/her postural tolerances, mobility, ranges of motion, muscle power, endurance, coordination, strength, work tolerance with reference to industrial standards, degree of effort/validity or effort, etc.  The results of the FAE are extremely useful in determining whether or not an individual worker is capable of performing a particular job when compared by the evaluator with the Job Site Assessment/Physical Demands Analysis specific to the employee of interest.  If indicated the results can then be considered by the vocational evaluator or rehabilitation specialists to consider appropriate work options or alternatives.
